There are two basic categories of hair loss treatments available today. One is medical treatment and the other is
surgical. It's not simply a matter of flipping a coin to decide which category works best for you. It's always best to
consult a health care provider to determine the cause of your hair loss and then determine the best course of
treatment.
Medical Options
The two products which are generally accepted to be effective hair loss treatments are Rogaine (minoxidil) and Propecia
(finasteride). Rogaine is applied directly to the scalp using an eyedropper or sprayer, while Propecia is taken as a pill.
Neither of these options will work for everyone and there are some side effects associated with either product. Again,
see your health care provider for advice.
Surgical Options
Modern surgical hair loss treatments result in a head of hair that both looks and behaves as if it were 100% natural.
Maybe that's because the actual hair is natural and the transplant techniques have improved greatly over the
years.
During the transplant procedure, the surgeon removes three or four hair follicles at a time from other areas of the body
where hair is present, and surgically inserts these clusters into the scalp. This process is repeated during the entire
course of the hair loss treatment until a full head of hair has been transplanted. The transplanted hair takes root and
grows like normal hair.
If the patient has enough "donor" follicles to cover the entire bald area then the procedure is usually quite
successful.
Which of these hair loss treatments is right for you? Your doctor knows.
