When it comes to hair loss remedies there are a lot of approved and unapproved treatments available. These run the gamut
from shampoos, FDA-approved medications, herbal products, vitamins and food supplements, to surgical procedures. Which of
these actually work? Results vary among patients.
Choosing the correct option from among all of the hair loss remedies is a complicated process. The most important factor
is determining what exactly is causing your hair loss. Once that is known it gets easier to narrow down the
choices.
Many shampoos and hair lotions can make hair appear to be thicker by depositing a residue of collagen on the follicles.
This creates a temporary thickening of the hair which lasts until the next shampoo. No shampoo is FDA approved to actually
treat baldness.
In fact, the only medical hair loss remedies that are FDA approved is Propecia and Rogain. There are other products in the
pipeline but they have not been approved as of the date that this article was written.
Probably the most universally successful of the available hair loss remedies is hair transplant surgery. This process
takes healthy hair from other parts of the body and transfers it to the scalp where it is implanted in the balding areas.
Eventually, if enough hair is transplanted, a full head of hair can be achieved. Because there is no dependance on the
effects of pharmaceuticals, results are almost virtually guaranteed.
